Helpful Study Tips:
Tip #1 – Don’t wait until the last minute. Study a little every night instead of trying to cram the night before the test. A good night’s sleep and healthy breakfast helps too!
Tip #2 – Stay organized. You have a science folder in your binder. Do not use the “shove” method when papers are returned or completed in class (meaning don't shove everything in your binder). Place papers in the correct folder right away. Do not "clean out" your folder without me! I will tell you when you can recycle papers.
Tip #3 - Make study cards. Note cards are a great way to study information, especially vocabulary words. On the front of a note card write the word or idea. On the back, write the definition or important information. Have a friend or parent ask you about the word and you need to give the definition or vice versa. You can also write the vocabulary word on one card and the definition on another card and then shuffle and match the cards!
Tip #4 – Use your study guide. If a teacher gives you a study guide, it is important to use it. This study guide will have important information and write it in your own words. Copy down any words that are written in bold or in italics. Look at chapter headings, section headings and review sections at the end of a chapter for other important information to add to your study guide. Merge this information with class notes.
Tip #5 – Study with a buddy. Discussing information with friends or parents is another way to study.
Tip #6 – Ask for help. If you are struggling, ask for help. Tell me right away, we can find a time to review material and help you gain confidence with the material.
Tip #7 – Focus. Studying takes time and effort. Get organized, ask for help and put forth effort in improving your study habits.
